Retarded Ejaculation (Delayed Ejaculation)

Other terms: delayed ejaculation, (DE) male orgasmic disorder, inhibited male orgasm, ejaculatory dysfunction, ejaculation over control, situational retired ejaculation.

Usually the man can achieve orgasm with masturbation, or foreplay but not during sexual intercourse itself.

The inability to ejaculate inside a woman’s vagina during intercourse is called retarded ejaculation or delayed ejaculation.  It is not a common dysfunction, being only about 5% of men with erectile dysfunction.

Some with this condition are not able to reach orgasm, while others need extensive stimulation in order to orgasm.  Many of the men who cannot ejaculate during intercourse are able to reach orgasm by masturbation or oral stimulation by their partner.

Causes of retarded ejaculation include:  heavy drug or alcohol use, psychoactive drugs like tranquilizers and antidepressants, and narcotic addiction.

Psychological issues, like anger toward one’s partner, performance anxiety, or fear of impregnating one’s partner can also contribute to delayed ejaculation.

Some men with this disorder can only orgasm with women other than their partner.

In recent years, some experts have suggested that certain retarded ejaculation patients may have used vigorous rubbing during masturbation and become conditioned to intense stimulation.  Suggesting that a woman’s vagina isn’t intense enough to cause an orgasm.

Treatment for retarded ejaculation and other male orgasmic disorders may involve exploring psychological issues, homework assignments and new behavioral techniques to minimize performance pressure and focus on pleasure to extend response time.
