What happens between EMDR sessions?
Between EMDR sessions, the client is advised to keep a daily record of any unusual or significant thoughts or feelings. They are encouraged to bring their notes to their next EMDR session to help the therapist learn if adjustments in their therapy are needed.
Following an EMDR session, a sense of great relief, feelings of openness, and even euphoria, are common. These are normal reactions to the emotional releasing that is taking place.
Some clients may experience unusual thoughts or dreams that may, or may not, have some meaning. This is typical of the emotional release process and should not be a cause of too much concern. Having unusual experiences during the EMDR therapy session period is an indication that it is working.
